What do you think of as “prime reality”? What is the most basic building block of the universe?
Metaphysics is “first philosophy”—the question of reality, how it is constituted, and what it consists of is among the very first of the deeper queries man has leveraged against his understanding of life. Keeping in mind the Atomistic, Flux, and Monistic traditions from your readings this week, respond to the following questions:
What do you think of as “prime reality”? What is the most basic building block of the universe? Is it static, or does it change? Does the universe consist of a single substance, a plurality of substances, and do these substances change? And, perhaps most importantly, how do all of these issues relate to your conception of God? Did God make them? Does God control them? If you do not believe in God, where did the building blocks of the universe come from? (250 words minimum)
