This essay assignment will be based on “The Story of an Hour,” which is in your text and which you are already reading. Your paper should develop a description of the protagonist, Mrs. Mallard. This is not a physical description, but more of a character description. We learn things about Mrs. Mallard by what she does, how she interacts with others, what she thinks, what we learn of her past life, and how she thinks about her future.—————– You should not summarize the story.
A good model to follow for this paper is in your textbook, p. 40 of the Tenth Edition. The model is entitled “Mrs. Johnson’s Overly Self Assured Daughter, Dee, in Walker’s ‘Everyday Use.’” If you aren’t using the 10th edition, the other editions of the book have model essays as well. ————- You can use this model as a guide to a descriptive essay. It’s also a model for the MLA format.————–All of our papers will be formatted according to MLA guidelines. For this paper, the guidelines are for spacing, margins, the content of margins, and font size and type. Be sure to follow these guidelines. Following MLA correctly will be part of your overall grade.————————
Develop the paper through a well-constructed essay. Begin with an introductory paragraph that gives direction to the paper and follow with several substantial paragraphs that develop the description. Write carefully and avoid errors such as semicolon errors, sentence errors, and all grammatical errors. Content, effective writing, and MLA formatting will all be factors in your grade.——————– Submit the paper to the SafeAssign Board as a Word attachment. Sending the paper in Word is important; if I can’t open the paper to read it, I can’t grade it
