In the pre-writing and organizational stage of your essay-writing, apply the Feldman Model of Art

Take extensive notes on the piece you have chosen. Do not include any biographical, historical, or other research information in your essay. You are writing about the work–not the artist.
In the pre-writing and organizational stage of your essay-writing, apply the Feldman Model of Art
Criticism (the four-part model listed below) to the work that you have selected:
Description: describe the work as completely as possible—what medium is it? What does it look
like? How is it displayed?
Analysis: How do all of the parts fit together?
Interpretation: What does the word mean? If the work is representational, relate how the artist’s
treatment of the subject matter interprets the object-event in a new way for you. If it is abstract,
tell how the artist’s treatment of the sensor changes your awareness of them.
Judgment: What degree of quality is this work? Does it succeed in creating a participatory
experience?
Your essay will be approximately 1200 words in length. You will not need to quote, so you do not
need a Works Cited page. You do need to edit and proofread. Make sure that your essay is
clear, well-written, and conforms to all conventions of grammar, spelling, and syntax.
