For the first assessment in this unit, you will investigate an advertising issue and write 1250
word Issue Article. You will be able to choose your topic (issue) from issues discussed in the
tutorials. Make sure you define the issue well and present all points of view on the issue.
You are to give a clear indication of the issue in the article headline (e.g. Why are we avoiding
advertising online?).
You are to research the issue in academic journals (at least 3 should be referenced) and also
include opinions of key industry writers in the area (at least 3 should be referenced). Make sure
that the academic sources are from quality advertising academic journals (e.g. Journal of
Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Interactive Advertising) and that your
industry sources are well respected.
The theoretical platform should be well explored and demonstrated by the inclusion of a recent
Australian advertising case and/or Australian industry examples. All research should be critically
analyzed and synthesized to support your argument. Your paper should offer conclusions and
your views on the issue.
This paper is to be written as if it is to appear in an industry magazine (look at Adnews or B& T
for inspiration) and must include a headline. Make sure that it is interesting to read and if you
write it as an opinion piece then it is acceptable to write it in the first person
All research sources should be clearly identified using APA referencing and a reference list
must be included at the end.
All reports are to be submitted using double line spacing, Arial 12 font and include your name,
student number, tutor’s name, and tutorial time. Pages should be numbered.

This assessment item is to be submitted via Turnitin on Blackboard in Week 6.
