1. First, pick two news stories from a major paper. Note which newspaper you’ve chosen to work with first (suggestions would be online version of The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal).
2. Second, name the news stories (by headline/title), and identify the central event / concept for each.
3. Third, analyze the events / concepts for their causes, as discussed in the newspaper articles. Determine if the causes are a chain or a cluster. Explain your reasoning for each.
4. Fourth, analyze the events / concepts for their effects, as discussed in the newspaper articles. First, discuss actual short term effects (these will more than likely be discussed in the article itself). Then, discuss probable long term effects for each, based upon your best educated guess, given the content of the article. Try to see long term effects from both a positive and negative perspective (“if conditions improve, this could happen…”, “if the situation worsens, this might be possible…”).
Do this for both news stories you choose. DO NOT attach files to the thread. Post your comments within the comments section of the thread. Please let me know if you have any questions.
