We all know lectures are not the most effective method of instruction, but there are times when
we must use lecture. Discuss 3 examples of how you can make your lectures more effective.
What strategies might you use and why?
One example of how you can make lectures more effective would be a visual aid
such as a PowerPoint or a video. PowerPoint can aid in adding focal points and
notes so that students can follow along, take notes, and better understand the
material. Visual aids like PowerPoint are important because not everyone has the
same learning style.
Another example in more effective lectures would be in the engagement with the
class. Oftentimes I find it effective if lecturers ask questions at the conclusion of
the lecture for the students to answer which cover important focal points of the
material. Not only does this make it more beneficial and enjoyable for both the
student and teacher, but it also puts more emphasis on key points that may be
used on future tests.
Thirdly, an effective lecture tool involves handouts. Handouts help with adding
emphasis on the material being lectured and can be taken from the classroom
and used as a study tool by the student. Handouts can involve a simple diagram
or an outline of the material discussed. Handouts can especially be effective with
