Instructions for Research
You are required to complete a Project (you can do the project with a partner but please notify the professor) which is worth 17% of your grade in this course. If you decide to do the project with a partner please be aware that both of you will receive the same grade. The instructor will provide a list of public health topics but can select a different one. A late project will be penalized 10pts. for the first day it is late and 2 pts. for every day that it is late thereafter.
Your research paper is to be organized into the following three segments:
1) Describe the public health topic.
2) Current health care issues and challenges in the United States related to the chosen topic.
3) Ideas to reform the current situation in the United States and/or globally.
Most of the information required for sections 1, 2, can be found on the internet (scholarly articles), library or other resources. However, you will have to apply what you have learned and use your analytical skills for section 3.
Describe the public health topic.
Present a brief introduction of the selected topic and convince the reader that the paper is interesting. Present the most current facts about the selected public health topic. (Ex. Latest statistics, current programs in the country, access to quality healthcare, etc.)
Current health care issues and challenges in the United States related to the chosen topic.
Present current data to support the statements. Use recent and appropriate references (research articles, edited books, etc.). The problems or healthcare issues are internally consistent, (i.e. one point follows from another) and well supported.
Ideas to reform the current situation in the United States and/or globally.
Present logical ideas to reform the public health issues in United States or globally and support their ideas with reliable references. The ideas are easy to follow and well organized. Analyze the issues presented in Section II and summarizes the findings and draws appropriate conclusions.
