The Albert Shanker Institute (2011) contends that states need to create “state teaching quality oversight bodies to work on linking student standards and curriculum guidance to teacher preparation and development, and to ensure that sufficient resources are allotted to these efforts” (Albert Shanker Institute, 2011, p.119). What are your thoughts about this statement? Support your thoughts with research and experience.
2. In their article on Common Core Standards, Greene, et al., (2011) state, “We agree that our expectations should be high and similar for all children whether they live in Mississippi or Massachusetts, Tennessee, or Texas. We also think that curricula should be designed before assessments are developed, not the other way around” (p. 121). Do you agree with their views on Common Core? Why or why not?
